Students and Parents are invited to attend 4 special MCS 2016 ACT PREP SESSIONS Tuesday, Jan. 12 Wednesday, Jan. 20 Thursday, Jan. 28 Thursday, February 4 3:15-5:00 Each Session (Colonel Killian’s Room) $10 per person per session ~ Register and pay in HS office by Thursday, Jan. 7 **MINIMUM 8 students required per session Session 1: Overview for first time test takers - Information, techniques, and practice Session 2: Science and Reading tests - Strategies and practice Session 3: Math - Concepts, strategies, and practice (graphing calculators not needed) Session 4: Math II/Using Technology - Maximizing use of the graphing calculator on the ACT ******************************************************************************************************* Session1 expanded - An informational overview of the ACT, addressing test design and strategies for taking this standardized test. A brief practice of each section of the test will be provided, giving students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the test design and to practice strategies. Session 2 expanded - Focus on the Science and Reading tests, including strategies, time management, and concentrated practice of both science and reading passages. Session 3 expanded - Practice and strategies for the math portion of the test, including a review of some key math concepts. Students should bring the calculator they plan to use on the ACT. Session 4 expanded - Math II - A further review of math concepts and strategies, but this session will focus primarily on using the graphing calculator to your best advantage on the ACT. Programs will be loaded on students' calculators (if the models are compatible), followed by practice of their use. Students should be in Geometry or a math class above that. The TI 84 Plus is the model the presenter will use, although other models may be compatible. |
