The Value of Home Schooling Through MCS
The Independent Studies Program provides:
Credibility
- Independent Studies students are considered students of Mansfield Christian School
- Graduate with a Mansfield Christian School diploma and official transcripts
- Standardized testing for grades 1-2 to monitor the progress of the child/Ohio Achievement Tests given to grades 3-8
- Ohio Graduation Tests are administered to every high school student
- Cumulative folder for each student, including test results, health records, application, and instructional objectives
Accountability and support
- Monthly visits with a coordinator, a certified teacher, to offer encouragement, accountability & support
- Individual help with curriculum choices
- Encouragement, support, & fellowship with other home school families
- Monthly newsletters offering planned activities, teaching suggestions, and devotional encouragement
- Parent training meetings
- Speech, vision, & hearing screenings; Speech therapy available
- Assistance with college scholarships
Educational material and equipment
- Textbooks used by students in the classroom are made available to IS students
- Use of the Mansfield Christian libraries
- Resource room for parents & children – videos, science kits, parent helps, literature reviews, home school magazines, hands-on math curriculum, DVDs, and much more
- Annual Used Book Sale
- Book – It reading incentive program
- Accelerated Reader computer comprehension program
Social interaction
- Field trips, classes, participation in special in-school assemblies & chapels, school plays, and more
- A smoother transition for mainstreaming a child into Mansfield Christian School
Limited classroom experience
- Opportunity for grades 7-12 to take up to three classes at Mansfield Christian School
- Post-secondary classes at MCS or area campuses receiving high school & college credit when requirements are met
- Classes twice a month at the Ranchwood Campus of Mansfield Christian School for grades K-6 including art, music, physical education, science, speakers, geography, creative writing, foreign language, and much more
- Classes at the Ranchwood Campus for grades 7-8.
- Weekly classes offered for credit taught for grades 7-12. Classes include Life Science/Earth Science, Creative Writing/Literature, Physical Science/Biology, Bible, Computer
- Elementary, junior high and high school Independent Studies students may participate in band and/or choir at Mansfield Christian School
Extra-curricular activities
- School plays, radio program, Field Day, Speech Meet, and more at MCS
- Participate in organized sports – grades 7-12 offer soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, golf, swimming, track and cheerleading
- Intramural sports, volleyball and basketball, for grades 4-6
