Parent Helper Responsibilities
- Parent helpers should get the whistle for outside recess and return right after all responsibilities are completed.
- Keep a cell phone with you in case you need help immediately.
- There will also be junior high helpers outside helping with recesses.
- One parent should stay with the K-3rd grade group and the other with 4th – 6th grade.
- One parent should stay outside for recesses and the other stay inside for lunches the entire time to ensure supervision at all times.
K-3 eat first then at 12:05 go outside for recess unless inclement weather when they go to the indoor recess room for games.
4-6 go outside for recess unless inclement weather when they go to the indoor recess room for games.
Note: Students are permitted to play in the gym but only with adult supervision; the issue many times is that some want to go to the room and others to the gym; if there are extra adults around to split the group that is fine with me, but both groups
need adult supervision.
Before lunch:
Make sure all tables are unfolded and set up around the tables
Get the disinfectant water ready.
Between lunches:
Clean off lunch tables, disinfect each table with cleaning solution – in kitchen beside the sink – use dish pan with hot water and disinfectant.
After last lunch:
Sweep floor with dry mop
Clean off lunch tables, disinfect each table with cleaning solution
Chairs are to be folded and placed on top of the tables.
During lunch:
Help students open lunches, drinks, etc.
Assist any student that wants to use the microwave (discourage use of microwave)
Push trash container around to encourage students to throw away all trash
When students have trash ready to throw away they are to raise their hand
Make sure students put their lunch containers in the correct home room bin (by color)
On playground:Remember, you are the adult in charge
Notice good behavior
Watch for bullying – do not tolerate
Keep your eyes out for those that are alone, not playing with anyone
No student is allowed on the yellow portion of the bars, only hanging from them, but not on top of the bars.
Bring all balls, play equipment inn from the playground area after the last recess
No student is permitted to play alone at the edge of the grassy area – students are encouraged to play together near the adult supervisor.
Blow the whistle to gather students to go inside; students should line up in single file and immediately go to the restroom to wash their hands after each recess.
Please take students to their next class at the appropriate time; make sure they have had drinks and been to the restroom and be in class on time.
Students are expected to walk single file quietly in the halls at all times inside the building.
Keep your cell phone with you. Call me at 419-571-5076 if you see any suspicious people loitering around.
Specifics:
For example, K-3 helper:
1. Greet children
2. Children will have assigned tables; they will choose the first day of class
3. Help students with their containers, microwave, etc.
4. Help students put their lunch containers in the appropriate home room bin.
5. When finished eating, students can be released by table to go to the restroom and wash their hands, then return to their table and wait to be dismissed as a group
6. Students should exit the building through the door by the kitchen and also come in through that door.
7. When recess is over, helper blows the whistle; students line up single file and enter the building again, going to the restroom to wash their hands before returning to their classroom or lunch.
