MCS Introduces Familiar Face as New Superintendent
MANSFIELD, Ohio (July 02, 2008) – Mansfield Christian School has announced the naming of Dr. Cy J. Smith as their new superintendent. Dr. Smith has a long history as a student, faculty member and administrator with the school. He replaces Kris Schottleutner, who has resigned the position after a successful tenure that spanned more than a decade.
Dr. Smith had been the High School Principal for MCS since 1998 and has a long history at the school. He graduated from Mansfield Christian in 1987, received his undergraduate degree in education from The University of Toledo, then went on to obtain his masters at Ashland University. Dr. Smith received his doctorate from AU in 2002. In addition to being an alumnus, Dr. Smith taught history and social studies at MCS for four years beginning in 1992, and spent some time coaching basketball. He says he is excited for the opportunity to lead the school and organization he has been so close to over the years; “I’m certainly grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to leading my alma mater. We will continue to expand our facilities and press for academic success and spiritual growth. MCS is a special place and I’m honored to guide such an outstanding organization.”
Mansfield Christian School was founded in 1961 and graduated its first class 11 years later. The school now serves almost 800 students in pre-K through the 12th grade on their main campus, through their Independent Studies home school programs and their online school, MCS Online. The school also eagerly awaits the grand opening of their new state-of-the-art pre-K and elementary wing this Fall, which will house a new cafeteria, class rooms and work rooms.
Dr. Smith assumes the role of superintendent immediately in preparation for the 2008-2009 school year at Mansfield Christian School. He also will lead the search for a new High School Principal to fill his former position.
